Artistic Mosaics at Gîte des Rêves

To keep ourselves busy over the winter period both Dave and I have been doing some mosaicking.

Sink Surround

I have been mosaicing a new stone sink surround for our bathroom in the gite, inspired by paisley patterns. I have not made a mosaic for many years but soon got into the designing of it, choosing a bright and cheerful colour scheme of blues and lilacs.

We have just finished it after 3 months of making and have now grouted and fitted it into the sink area.

We are very pleased with how it looks and a lovely english couple who arrived last night said they were very impressed at how professional the mosaic looks and also commented on how we have great taste as they absolutely love the gite and how we have designed it all.

Garden Mosaic

Dave is busy working on another mosaic for the garden wall, inspired by the cut out leaf patterns and birds that by matisse made in his later years.

This mosaic will make a welcoming entrance on the wall of the stone staircase as people arrive at our garden gate.

We are also making a new dry garden area in the garden for our guests to go in the summer to find a cool shady place to read and relax.

We have constructed a willow arbor and are in the process of constructing a wooden pergola as well as sun loving plants like grasses. A new water feature is in the design stage to add a cool and relaxing sound to the equation. We will add photos as soon as we have this work done!
